Who We Are

JMTHEARTIST is a Kenyan born visual artist based in Norway, whose practice explores identity, belonging and cultural memory through contemporary figurative painting.

She began painting in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, initially driven by a desire to create work that reflected her own cultural heritage-something she found largely absent while growing up and living in Norway.

What began as a search for representation evolved into a process of reconnecting with her Kenyan roots and navigating the complexities of a life shaped by multiple cultures.

Working in expressive figurative painting and vibrant colour, JMTHEARTIST creates images inspired by ordinary people, places and everyday moments. Her work seeks to evoke emotions, curiosity and connection while exploring the stories her subjects carry.

Through her paintings she invites viewers to reflect on identity as something fluid, evolving and shaped by memory, places and our shared humanity.
