Artist statement:
My work is a visual exploration of identity and emotional presence
through figurative portraiture.
I am drawn to emotion before form. Each face I paint carries
elements of history rooted in heritage, yet reaching toward the
present.
I seek to capture the quite power, dignity and complexity of the
african life.
My use of color is intentional: Earth tones that speak of the origin
and bold pigment to symbolize resilience, celebration and cultural
beauty.
Painting for me is both intuitive and reflective. Its a way to honor
presence. To capture not just the face, but the soul behind the
gaze.
My hope is that each piece becomes a mirror- not only reflecting the
subjects and their narratives, but also awakening emotion, curiosity
and connection in the viewer.
